There’s something magical about a winter engagement session at beach. The stillness, the crisp air, and the way the light reflects off the water create an entirely unique atmosphere. That magic was on full display during Kim and Landon’s engagement session at Duxbury Beach. While we may have been freezing, their love and laughter warmed the entire experience.
The day began with high hopes and layers of warm clothing. The wind was biting, and the chill seemed to seep through every layer, but Kim and Landon were absolute troopers. They braved the cold with smiles on their faces, even when it came time to change shirts for outfit variety—a decision that, while aesthetically worth it, only added to the frosty adventure (a special thank you to Kim’s mom and sister for being her portable closet and dog sitters.)By the time we wrapped up, I think it’s safe to say none of us could feel our fingers or toes.
Kim and Landon are both geologists, which added such a fun and personal twist to the session. While most couples focus solely on the waves and sand, these two found pure joy in exploring the rocks scattered across the shoreline. Watching them excitedly examine and identify different types of rocks was like witnessing two scientists in their element—completely fascinated and connected by their shared passion. They even picked the one I styled their engagement ring on and they kept it as a souvenir.
Despite the chill, the session was a success. As the sun was setting, the sky transformed into gorgeous soft, golden hues. The sunset provided the perfect backdrop for their portraits, adding warmth to an otherwise icy setting. Kim and Landon’s chemistry made the cold seem almost irrelevant—they were playful, affectionate, and so clearly in love, making my job just so much fun.
My trusty reusable hand warmers made their usual heroic appearance for the couple. They’ve become an essential part of my winter shoots, and once again, they saved the day, keeping us just warm enough to power through.
Looking back, the cold was a small price to pay for such a stunning session. Kim and Landon’s story is one of resilience and warmth, and this engagement session perfectly captured that. While our bodies may have been frozen, our hearts were full. It was an unforgettable day that I’m so grateful to have been a part of.
Cheers to Kim and Landon for their bravery and to the beauty of winter love stories! I can not wait for their wedding at the Boston Science Museum in May 2025!
