Would you believe me if I told you 45 minutes before Emilee and Ben’s first look, there were thousands of people at Christopher Columbus Park? It was just outside their State Room wedding venue! As I was capturing the dress, I heard a helicopter outside of the hotel and thousands of people cheering. I stepped outside for a brief moment and saw Santa was about to land in the middle of the park… The park that we planned to have Emilee and Ben’s first look. The park that had rain in the forecast, but just 45 minutes before, it was sunny and Santa was coming.
As I was preparing for a change of plans, a few different options came up… The weather was holding up and I was confident in the new plans. I finished capturing the dress and headed to tell the bride and groom.
Thankfully, the park was cleared of people but rain was coming. We reverted back to the original plan and went with their first look at Christopher Columbus Park. It was absolutely the right decision and it was absolutely beautiful. Rain started just as Ben turned around to see her,. That did not stop them from having a beautiful first look with the city scape of Boston, though. We were still able to capture some amazing bride and groom portraits outside in the rain. When it started to pour, we moved inside for family and wedding party portraits. Just because we had to move inside for those, it did not dampen out day (get it.) The Long Wharf Hotel had an amazing room we were able to use. We were able to capture those important moments (and people) before heading to The State Room.
When we walked into the ballroom at the State Room wedding venue, the hallway was lined with beautiful backlit images from Emilee and Ben’s Engagement Session. It was such a cool moment to see and it really was a perfect statement piece as we entered into the ballroom area. The views of Boston are incredible on the 30th floor of 60 State Street, Boston. Even with the rain, the backdrop of the city was beautiful. Guests were admiring it as they waited for the ceremony to begin, and all through the night.
Emilee and Ben, THANK YOU for having us capture this amazing day. I loved getting to know you both during your engagement session and getting to capture your wedding day was a dream come true. Thank you again for brining me back to Boston and for trusting me to capture your special day, rain and all. You guys are amazing! Here are just a few of my favorite photos from your wedding day. XO.
