A Newborn Session with the O’Rourke Family | Welcoming Baby Annie

There are few things more special than being invited into a family’s home for a newborn session. It’s such a fleeting season. Everything feels brand new! The days are a little slower, and the love in the house feels like it has doubled overnight. Kate and Darren reached out to let me know their sweet girl had arrived, and I couldn’t wait to meet her! And get to capture this incredible time in their lives.

Baby Annie is absolute perfection. From the moment I walked in, she was as calm and content as could be. She slept through her entire session, which made it so easy to capture her tiny features, sweet details, and all of the snuggly moments with her family. There’s something about a sleeping newborn that just feels like pure peace. It’s as if time pauses for a little while.

Of course, it wouldn’t be a true family session without including her proud big brother, Charlie. He was fantastic! Charlie has such a gentle spirit, and you can already tell he’s going to be a wonderful brother. We even managed to capture a few adorable shots of Annie and the family pup together. Moments that perfectly showcase the love and warmth of this household. Pets are so much a part of the family. Including them always adds an extra layer of authenticity and heart to the photos.

One of my favorite parts of in-home newborn sessions is the comfort it brings to everyone involved. Babies are happiest in their own space. Parents are more relaxed, and siblings (whether kids or dogs!) feel right at home. There’s a natural rhythm to photographing a family in their own environment. It’s less about posing and more about preserving the real, everyday magic that’s unfolding right in front of us.

As I photographed Kate and Darren with their newest little one, I couldn’t help but think about how meaningful these images will be years down the road. This is just the beginning of Annie’s story, and these photographs are little time capsules of the days when she was brand new, when Charlie was just learning to step into his role as big brother, and when their family was adjusting to life as a family of four (five, if you count the pup!).

I’m so grateful to Kate and Darren for welcoming me into their home and trusting me to document this season for them. It’s always such a privilege to watch families grow and to be able to give them something tangible to hold onto from these early days. Annie is truly the sweetest little thing, and I can’t wait to see her personality unfold as she grows.

Congratulations, Kate and Darren—your family is beautiful, and it was an absolute pleasure to be there to celebrate Annie’s arrival with you.
