Portraits on the Cape | The Canon Family Portraits

Some families leave such a lasting impression. Every time I reconnect with families like these, it feels like no time has passed at all. The Canon family is one of those for me. When they asked to have their family portraits on the Cape, I immediately said yes!

I’ve known the Canon Family since before the twins were born. Back when Carilyn was expecting, blogging about motherhood, and I was capturing images for her posts. The kids were little when I first met them. It’s incredible to see how much they’ve grown and how their personalities continue to shine.

When we moved to New Hampshire, I didn’t get to see the Canons often since they’re based on the Cape. That made this session extra special. Reuniting with them brought me back to those early days, but also gave me the chance to capture who they are right now: a family full of energy, talents, and evolving passions.

Carilyn herself is now behind the camera as a photographer, which made this shoot all the more meaningful. Watching her kids dive into their own interests—football, basketball, dance, and karate—shows just how much life and movement fills their world. I love seeing their different personalities come alive in front of my lens, just as I did years ago.

Even though the day was overcast and rainy, the session couldn’t have been more perfect. The fog that rolled over the water created this moody, dreamy backdrop that added such a unique feel to the portraits. Sometimes the weather surprises you, and instead of sunshine, you get atmosphere—and honestly, it was stunning.

Being with the Canon family again was a reminder of how photography connects us over time. From pregnancy to the blogging years, and now into this next chapter, I feel so grateful to keep documenting their story.
