Travel Journal Day 4 – Rest Day at the Resort

Monday May 2, 2022

REST DAY! Boy, am I happy we got a rest day!!! Between traveling and seeing 2 parks back to back (Animal Kingdom and Magic Kingdom) everyone was exhausted! It was nice not to rush out of the room and not set an alarm. We were able to just to wake up at the resort to watch some TV before heading to the pool. I think the kids appreciated it too.

I had a few Instacart orders that were being delivered to the hotel this day. It worked out perfectly that we could relax, meet the delivery shoppers in the lobby, and go to the pool.

The pool at the Port Orleans French Quarter was wonderful especially for the ages of our boys (7 and 5) There is a small waterslide in the shape of a sea monster the kids got to go down. The deepest the pool got was 4ft. They had complimentary life jackets and towels as well. The kids (and us) had the best time swimming.

There were even activities for the kids outside the pool. Ethan and Henry were so excited for the Hula Hoop Competition. There were about 10 kids all practicing they hula hoop skills. Lifeguards joined in on the fun and when it was time for the competition, Ethan won 3 rounds! The smile on his face was priceless and our hearts were so full. What an amazing memory! More swimming happened, along with a pool party with trivia questions. Henry wanted to keep swimming while Ethan played the pool party games. His trivia question was “What is the Wookie’s name in Star Wars.” He got it right with the answer Chewbacca.

A little backstory with Star Wars before I continue. Star Wars Movies were our movie of choice on family movie night during the COVID-19 pandemic. We watched all the movies and now we are watching the Disney + series. I had never seen a Star Wars movie before this.

It was great to be able to do some laundry today while the guys were at the pool! The hotel had their own laundromat which was extremely nice! They had detergent there for $1.00 and a wash/dry was $3.00. While the laundry was going, I joined the boys in the pool. By the time the laundry loads were complete, we got out to get ready for the second half of the day.

Our best friends were also in Orlando this week staying off property which means they had a car and were able to pick us up for the resort and bring us to their pool for the second half of the day! The kids were so happy to be playing with their best friends, swimming in a beautiful pool on a gorgeous day in Florida! While we were sad we did not get to see them in Magic Kingdom, it was so great we got to see them on our pool day! We were having so much fun, we didn’t even realize the time!! Around 7:30pm we got out of the pool and headed to their condo for dinner. It was another late night filled with so much joy!

We got back to the resort around 9:30. The kids went right to bed and I got us ready for the next day as we planned to be at the opening of the park catching the first bus at 6:30am.
